Pink isn’t just a color, it’s an Attitude!

PinkOctober is breast cancer awareness month. Every year when October rolls around, I hear commercials, see pink ribbons, am asked to donate to the cause and know people that are participating in breast cancer events.

The money raised during the month of October comes rolling in-huge amounts of money. It is for a wonderful cause, but then I read about where the majority of the money goes…salaries to top executives, plush office space, overhead, etc. This really bothers me. What about the woman with cancer that can’t afford treatment? Or the woman that chooses to do Alternative Treatment and her insurance won’t cover the costs? Oh and the woman that had cancer and then her health insurance premium goes up every 6 months, until she can no longer afford the premium? I personally would rather help someone with cancer by paying a bill or buying her some organic groceries. Some of these charities are such a ripoff and those that truly need financial help often never see any.

Also, the whole ‘awareness month’ really bothers me. I am a 9 year survivor, my mother is a 29 year survivor and all three of her sisters had breast cancer and died. We’ve been tested and we don’t carry the gene! I’m not aware of breast cancer just during the awareness month. I’m aware of it everyday…when I look at myself in the mirror, when I’m showering or changing clothes, when I’m doing yard work and I must be careful not to injure my left hand or arm (to try to prevent lymphedema), when my lack of hormones is giving my body fits or when I pick up a grand child and they bump my still painful breast. Yes I’m aware, but much more often than the month of October!

There are many more cancers, not just breast cancer and we need research for them all. I personally believe that disease and cancer is caused by deficiencies in the body. If our body is getting all of the vitamins, minerals and essential fats needed it will be able to fight disease. Add clear air, proper hydration, remove the toxins and chemicals and the body should thrive.

I think cancer research is necessary and so is funding. There are some amazing things happening in Natural Medicine and in Integrative Medicine. Funding shouldn’t all go to Western Medicine research. It is time to look to the basics…back to the natural things that God provided us with, clean air, pure water, healthy organic nutrition and quality herbs. I’d like to see some trend setters make a bold contribution to research in the Natural Medicine arena.

Our food source needs to be cleaned up…no chemicals, toxins, growth hormones and no GMO’s. Some 160+ countries have banned GMO food and the United States is still allowing it and consuming it! Get this poison out of our grocery stores and out of our homes! Stop buying GMO food and non organic food and the grocery stores will be forced to stock the healthier choice. The consumer has the power to make them change. I am doing my part. I challenge you to do the same, for your health and your family’s health.

I am aware of cancer everyday. I am a survivor. I make healthy choices. By changing the air we breathe in our home, the water we drink, the food we purchase at the grocery store and have drop shipped to our home and the supplements we take, I know I am giving my body the best possible chance to be healthy and fight disease.

For me, pink represents health, living life to the fullest and survival. Pink isn’t just a color, it’s an attitude! Wishing each of you optimal health. Are you up to the challenge?

From the heart!                                                                                                                         ~Kathy Burden
